O Herbário JPB foi iniciado em 1938, tendo como origem a coleção particular do Dr. Lauro Pires Xavier. Atualmente conta com ca. 37.000 exsicatas distribuídas, principalmente, entre Angiospermas, Algas e Fungos. Este material tem como procedência principal o estado da Paraíba, com destaque para material das famílias Rubiaceae, Solanaceae e Rhamnaceae.
